Marathon 43 km

The marathon course starts and finishes at the event center on the grounds of Hotelli Pyhätunturi (Calle Talon front area). From the start, you head towards the Kultakero service road, then take a loop on the front slopes, gathering elevation gain. After a short loop on the slopes, the route descends back to the service road and continues past Tajukangas down to the stunning landscapes of Aittakuru. After Aittakuru, the course runs along ski track bases and then gradually starts ascending towards Karhunjuomalampi and the fells of Finland’s oldest national park. From Karhunjuomalampi, you head towards Annikinlampi and then Huttuloma. At this point, runners can enjoy the impressive Lappish fell and wilderness scenery on the lower slopes of Noitatunturi, Laakakero, and Peurakero.

After Huttuloma, the course climbs the fells and hills of the Luosto fell chain. First, you ascend the slope of Huttutunturi towards Kapusta. After passing Kapusta, the route circles Latvavaara. After the Latvavaara loop, you head back towards Pyhä, again via Kapusta and Huttutunturi to Huttuloma, but by a different route than on the way out. From Huttuloma, a grueling ascent begins on the slopes of Peurakero, Laakakero, and Noitatunturi. The climb culminates at Annikinlampi, from where you continue to Karhunjuomalampi. From Karhunjuomalampi, the route continues for a few kilometers on a beautiful forest trail, after which the final push begins with a technical climb to the top of Kultakero (500 m). From the summit of Kultakero, you descend the ski slope to the event center on the grounds of Hotelli Pyhätunturi, where the finish line awaits!
